Post-snap, key the quarterback's eyes to the middle of the field, if he is looking to hit a shallow drag or spot route, the buzzed Mike and safety are sitting right in that window. This shell is vulnerable to four verticals or seam routes if the deep thirds corners bite on underneath action, so watch for seam stretches attacking the numbers between the deep third and the buzz defender. Man beater route combos like slant flat or spacing concepts get eaten up here because the extra hook defender takes away the natural void that man coverage usually creates in a Cover 3 shell. Watch for play-action rollouts to the flat side, since the buzz backer's delayed drop can be exploited by a fullback or tight end leaking out before the zone fully sets.

Check the pre-snap alignment of the offense's slot receivers and tight ends, if they are stacking or bunching to the middle, this call is built to squeeze that traffic.
Pair this with Cover 3 Sky or Cover 3 Match in your play-calling sequence so the offense cannot key on the Mike backer's drop depth or the deep third rotation from a static pre-snap look.
User the buzzing safety if you expect a delayed crosser or dig route since that defender has the best leverage to undercut a route breaking back to the middle.
Avoid calling this against heavy verticals stacked outside since the corners are locked into deep thirds with no help over the top on double moves.
