Hot Bltiz 3 is a five-man pressure package out of the 3-3-5 Nickel 5-1-5 personnel, sending five red-arrow rushers upfield while dropping three deep defenders into a Cover 3 shell and two underneath zone defenders to rob the middle of the field. The three deep X defenders run vertical to their deep third landmarks, while the two shaded underneath zones sit in the intermediate hook and curl areas to take away quick hitters and check releases against the blitz. This is a zone blitz beater for the defense, designed to bring pressure without fully exposing the deep middle, and the primary read for the blitzing defense is getting the extra rusher home before the quarterback can hit the intermediate zone voids.
Pre-snap, check if the offense has trips or bunch formations that can flood one of your underneath zones and overload the shallow area Watch for hot route sight adjustments from slot receivers that convert routes to beat a five-man rush, especially quick outs and slants into the underneath voids Post-snap, track the running back release out of the backfield since he is the first check against a blitz look and can expose the shallow area behind the rush This beats teams that rely on quick game and three step drops since the underneath zones close passing lanes before receivers separate This gets exploited by play-action rollouts and screens away from the blitz side, since the aggressive rush can be manipulated with misdirection Watch deep middle throws over the three deep defenders if pressure does not disrupt the quarterback within roughly two to three seconds
Call this on third and medium to third and long when you need a coverage sack or a forced quick throw into a shrinking window
Identify the offensive protection pre-snap and pick your extra rusher based on the weak side of a slide protection or a running back who stays in to block
Use your hot routes to widen or crash your underneath zone defenders if you see the offense stacking receivers into the shallow curl to hook area
Pair this with Cover 3 Sky or Tampa 2 from the same set so the offense cannot key blitz off your pre-snap alignment
Spy the middle of the field with your MLB user if the quarterback is a scrambler, since the deep thirds leave the intermediate middle vulnerable if pressure does not get home quickly
