Play diagram for Mtn Y PoCo from Shotgun Y Off Trips Close in Madden 27

Not in any team playbook.

Breakdown

Mtn Y PoCo runs out of Shotgun Y Off Trips Close with pre-snap motion bringing the backside receiver across to the trips side before the snap. At the snap, the two outside trips receivers run deep clearout routes to the sideline while the Y (slot) runs the post corner breaking to the numbers, and the backside receiver who motioned across runs a deep in that crosses the field underneath. This is a man beater designed to hit the post corner against outside leverage, with the deep clearouts on both sides opening a natural window for the Y route as the primary read.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check safety depth and alignment over the trips side, a single high safety shaded toward the post corner side is a sign the offense may still have a window if the corner is playing man. Watch the cornerback over the Y receiver, if he is playing tight man with no help underneath the post corner is live, but if he sinks into a zone drop the window closes fast. Post-snap, user a lurking linebacker or safety to sit in the passing lane behind the post corner break point, this is the primary way to shut down the route. Cover 2 shells with the corner sinking to take away the deep out and a safety rotating over the post corner threat can suffocate this concept, forcing the quarterback to the underdeep in route instead. Watch for the defense following the motion man with a linebacker or slot corner, a clean man match on the motion confirms man coverage and tells the quarterback to trust the post corner read.

Usage Tips

Use the pre-snap motion to identify man versus zone before the snap, if the defender follows the motion man across the formation you are getting man coverage and the post corner has a great chance to win.

Target the Y post corner as your first read, especially against cornerbacks playing outside leverage or press man, since the route breaks away from that leverage toward the corner.

If the safety rotates over the top on the post corner side, check down to the deep in route coming across from the motion man for a solid intermediate gain.

Best called on second and medium to second and long or third and medium situations where you have room to push the ball down the field but are not desperate for a chunk conversion.

Pair this with Mtn HB Corner or Mtn Corners from the same set to keep defenders guessing between corner routes and post corners out of a similar trips look, then mix in Mesh Y Out or Pats Cross to attack underneath if the defense starts sitting deep.
