Play diagram for Mtn Corners from Shotgun Y Off Trips Close in Madden 27

Not in any team playbook.

Breakdown

Mtn Corners lines up out of Shotgun Y Off Trips Close with a trips bunch to the right and a single receiver to the left who runs a deep corner route from an outside release. From the trips side, the inside receiver runs a quick out breaking away from traffic, the middle receiver clears vertically before bending into a deep corner, and the outside receiver runs a shallow flat route underneath. This is a man beater and zone-flood concept designed to stack two corner routes at different depths against the sideline while clearing underneath with the flat route, and the primary read progression starts with the single receiver corner route on the backside isolation, then works to the trips side corner route, and finally checks down to the flat if both corners are covered.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check safety depth and shell alignment since a two-high shell forces you to squeeze the corner routes and rally underneath before the ball gets over the top. Watch the flat defender on the trips side, if he sits too deep in reaction to the corner route, jump the flat route with a user linebacker for an easy pass breakup. Man coverage on the backside isolated receiver is the biggest vulnerability, so if you see man alignment with no safety help over the top, drive on the corner break for a potential interception. Zone coverage with a hard flat-to-corner robber technique on either side can undercut both corner routes, so key the underneath defenders after the snap for lurk potential. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge can pressure the quarterback before the deeper corner routes develop, so watch for overload pressure and be ready to squat on the shallow flat route as a hot answer.

Usage Tips

Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing two-high or single-high safety shells since this play thrives against single-high looks where the backside corner route only has one deep defender to beat.

If the corner shows off coverage on the backside isolated receiver, take that corner route immediately on your first read since it is a one-on-one shot against a smaller defensive footprint.

Against two-high shells, work the trips side corner route since the flat route underneath will hold the flat defender and open a passing lane for the corner behind it.

This play works best on second or third and long when you need a chunk gain, and it pairs well with Mtn HB Corner or Mtn Y PoCo out of the same set to keep the defense guessing on corner route timing.

Sequence this play after running Inside Zone or HB Power from the same formation to get linebackers cheating downhill, opening up the vertical corner routes over the top.
