Giants Go DBL Post is a trips-based dropback pass out of Shotgun Y Off Trips Close that stacks two post routes from the trips side against a deep go route from the backside X, with the inline slot running an under drag and the back releasing to the flat as a checkdown. The double post concept attacks the seams vacated by both safeties, making this a clear Cover 2 and Cover 4 beater since it stresses the deep middle and forces the safeties to choose which post to carry. The primary read starts with the outside post from the slot receiver, works to the inner post from the third trips receiver, and comes down to the backside go route or flat route if both safeties squeeze the middle.
Pre-snap, check safety depth and width, two deep safeties splitting the field evenly is the biggest red flag that the double post will find a soft spot in the middle of the field. Watch the flat defender and underneath hook defenders after the snap, if they stay wide with the drag route the middle of the field opens up for both posts to sit in the void. Man coverage with a single high safety is the toughest shell against this concept since the safety can rob one post while the corner trails the other in man, and the drag route becomes the checkdown instead of the go route. Look for a user controlled lurk defender sitting in the intermediate middle zone, since that player can jump the inside post if the quarterback stares it down. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge shrink the quarterback's window, so a quick pressure read to the drag or flat route is necessary if the double posts have not developed by the time the pocket collapses.
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense shows two deep safeties or a single high safety, since this concept is built specifically to punish two deep shells with a natural high low on the post routes.
If the defense shows Cover 4, key the corner over the trips side, if he sinks with the post you have room to work the shallow drag as a quick answer before the posts fully develop.
Use the backside go route as a home run shot against man coverage teams that roll a single safety away from the trips bunch, since the X gets a one on one look outside the numbers.
Pair this play with Mtn Empty Smash Y-Post or Mtn Y PoCo in your call sheet to keep defenses guessing between smash concepts and double post shots from the same trips look.
Best used on second and long or first down shot plays when you want to test the safeties early, since the double post takes time to develop and needs a clean pocket.
