PA Fork is a play-action shot play out of Shotgun Wing Close Offset designed to attack downfield off a run fake, using a fork concept where routes split vertically and diagonally to stretch the middle of the field. The offensive line sells inside zone action before sliding into pass protection, giving the quarterback a clean pocket to work through his levels. The primary read starts with the deep vertical or post breaking to the middle of the field, then works down to the underneath crosser or flat route if the safety jumps the shot play, making this an effective man and zone beater when the play fake holds linebackers.
Watch for single high safety shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3, these are the most vulnerable to the vertical fork route since the deep defender has to cover too much ground. Identify if linebackers step up hard on the run fake, this opens throwing lanes for the intermediate crosser and confirms the play action is working. Cover 2 shells with two deep safeties can squeeze the vertical routes, so be ready to check down to the underneath option instead of forcing the deep read. Look for a user-controlled defender lurking in the middle of the field, this is the biggest threat to the crossing route and can bait an interception if you force that throw. Blitz packages that bring extra defenders off the edge will pressure this play quickly since the play fake slows the quarterback's drop, so have a quick hot route ready to account for the extra rusher.
Run this on early downs, ideally first or second and short to medium, so the run fake actually holds the second level defenders.
Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see a single high safety cheating toward the field side, the post route in the fork concept has a much better window.
Hot route the underneath crosser into a sit route against zone shells to give yourself a checkdown if the deep shot is covered.
Pair PA Fork with Inside Zone and Same Side Zone earlier in a drive so the defense respects the run fake and bites harder on the play action.
Use motion pre-snap if available to identify man coverage, if a defender follows across the formation you know the fork routes will win against trailing man technique.
