Mtn Slot Cross is a motion-based crosser concept out of Shotgun 11 personnel designed to attack man coverage with natural rub traffic and create horizontal stress on zone defenders. Pre-snap motion drags a slot receiver across the formation to help identify man versus zone, then the crossing routes work in tandem to pick off trailing defenders while a deeper route occupies the middle of the field. The primary read progression starts with the motion man's leverage post snap: if the defense follows man to man, work the crosser into open grass behind the traffic, and if it sits in zone, climb the ladder to the deep in breaking route or check down to the underneath option.
Pre snap check safety depth and cornerback alignment on the motion man's side, since press man or tight trail technique signals man coverage that this play is designed to beat. Post snap watch for a user controlled defender sitting in a lurk spot in the middle of the field, as that is the primary threat to the crossing routes and can bait an interception. Identify linebacker depth at the snap because shallow drops indicate zone under coverage that will clog the crossing lanes and force you to work the deeper option. Look for late rotating safeties out of a two high shell, since a rotation to single high often means man coverage is coming and the crossers should win quickly. Recognize blitz packages by checking if the defense brings extra rushers off the motion side, which leaves the crossing routes in soft coverage against a lighter box.
Watch the motion defender before the snap because his reaction is your instant man or zone indicator on this play.
Against man coverage let the crossers work through traffic and throw with anticipation since the rub will separate your receiver from his defender.
Against zone shells look to sit routes down in the throwing lanes between linebacker and safety depth, especially on second and medium to long distances.

Use hot routes to convert the underneath option into a quick out or flat route if you diagnose a hard blitz, giving you a fast answer against pressure.
