Empty Trips Speed strips the backfield entirely and pushes all five eligible receivers to the line of scrimmage, with a three receiver trips bunch to one side and two split wide to the other. The "Speed" tag matters here: your RB slides out as a receiver rather than staying in to protect, so you are working with a five out look and zero help for the tackles. That is the core difference from standard Shotgun sets in this formation. Nothing is condensed for protection, everything is built to widen the defense horizontally and force them to declare coverage before the snap.
Read the box before the snap: if you count six defenders threatening pressure, check to Mtn Fk Screen or Jailbreak Slot Screen instead of trying to hold protection.
Use this set on third and medium to third and long, when the defense is already in a pass shell and the horizontal spacing gives you two or three quick answers.
Hot route the outside trips receiver to a fade or streak on Y Corner and Trail Shake to clear the deep third, then work the corner or dig underneath.
Against single high man, motion a trips receiver across to confirm the coverage, then attack with Hoss Y Juke or Whip Unders and let the whip route break away from the trailing defender.
Keep QB Draw and Shock WR Option in the rotation, especially against opponents who user the middle of the field, since a single vacated hook window turns a checkdown into a chunk gain.
