Empty Bunch Tight strips the backfield entirely and condenses all five eligible receivers inside the numbers, with a three man bunch to one side and a tight pair to the other. Unlike standard Shotgun sets in this formation that keep a running back in the backfield for check releases and pass protection help, Empty Bunch Tight commits to five out and forces the defense to declare its coverage rotation before the snap. The 11 personnel grouping puts your slot receiver and tight end in the bunch cluster, which means the defense has to decide whether to walk a linebacker out into the mess or leave a safety deep and play off. Either answer creates a leverage problem for you.
The compressed spacing is the entire point. Bunch alignments in Madden generate natural traffic and rub action without you ever hot routing anything, which is why Mesh Spot, Bunch Trail, and Shallow Drags all turn into automatic man beaters. Defenders in man coverage get stuck on bunch bodies, and zone defenders in the short middle get overloaded because Spacing and Quad Curls flood the same window with three targets at staggered depths. Because everything starts inside the numbers, your outside breaking routes (Wide Corners, Clear Deep) attack grass that no defender is aligned near, which is where you generate chunk gains against Cover 3 and single high shells.
The 3DRB, Gadget, and SLWR tags tell you how to populate this set. Your best route running slot receiver should be the point man in the bunch so he wins immediately on Spot Stick and In And Under. A third down back with route running and receiving ratings can flex into the tight pair and abuse a linebacker in man coverage. QB Draw is the pressure release valve: with five receivers spread and no back to account for, defenses that vacate the middle to cover the bunch give up easy yardage to a mobile quarterback, which also punishes opponents who blitz heavy expecting five out to mean five out.
Use this set on third down between five and ten yards. Read the linebacker over the bunch pre snap: if he widens out, throw Shallow Drags or Mesh Cross away from him. If he stays inside the box, run Spot Stick or In And Under into the vacated space.
When you see press coverage across the board, go straight to Mesh Spot or Bunch Trail. The rub action in the bunch is the cleanest man beater in the set and requires no adjustments.
Against single high with the safety cheating toward the bunch, call Clear Deep or Wide Corners and work the isolated side. That receiver has one on one leverage with no help over the top.
Always know your check down before the snap because you have no back to bail you out. Against six or seven man pressure looks, hot route the point bunch receiver to a slant or flat and get the ball out on your first read.
Mix in QB Draw once or twice a series with a mobile quarterback. Opponents who commit user defenders to the bunch traffic leave the middle wide open, and the threat alone slows down aggressive middle blitz pressure.
Motion a bunch receiver across the formation pre snap to confirm man or zone. If a defender travels, go to your rub concepts. If nobody follows, attack the zone with Spacing or Quad Curls.
