Defensive Reads

Zone coverage with disciplined linebackers who stay square and read the backfield rather than dropping hard into their zones will diagnose the draw and fill the running lane before the HB gets to the second level.
Usage Tips
Call this play when defenders are showing pressure looks or exotic blitz packages pre-snap, since the draw action exploits defenders crashing upfield past the point of attack. Watch for defensive line stunts or twists before the snap, as draw blocking handles straight rushes better than looping ends and can get exposed against contain rushers who stay disciplined. Use HB Draw on early downs in 1st and 10 or 2nd and short to stay unpredictable after establishing Inside Zone or Outside Zone from the same Box Offset Wk set. Motion is not needed here, but check the box count before the snap and only run it into light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the tackle box. Pair this with PA Verticals or Y Cross Post from the same formation so the defense respects both the vertical passing threat and the delayed run action, keeping linebackers honest.
