Strong Power out of Pistol Wing 12 personnel is a downhill gap power run designed to move the strong side of the line with a lead blocker. The diagram shows the HB aligned behind the QB with a lead blocker angling to the strong side, while the line executes down blocks and a pulling guard to seal the point of attack. This is a pure power run play, not play-action or an RPO, and the primary read is the play side alley: hit the hole off the double team and pulling guard, then read the linebacker fill before deciding to bounce outside if the edge is sealed.
Key the strong side linebacker depth before the snap, if he is sitting shallow in the box he can beat the pulling guard to the hole and blow this up. Watch for a Mike linebacker blitz through the A gap, which is the most common way user defenders stuff Strong Power at the mesh point. Identify whether the defense is in a 4-3 under or over front, since bear fronts and heavy odd fronts with extra defensive linemen clog the power gap and force a cutback read. Zone coverage shells with two deep safeties usually mean fewer extra box defenders, making this a good spot to run Strong Power. Man coverage looks with a single high safety often bring an extra run blitzer, so be ready to check to a bounce outside if you see the strong safety creeping into the box post-snap.
Run this on early downs like first and second and short when you expect base fronts or run blitzes stacked toward the box. Check the defensive front pre-snap for a walked up linebacker or extra man in the box, since Strong Power thrives against light boxes and struggles versus heavy stacked fronts. If the defense shows a shifted front to the weak side, consider audibling to HB Slam or Mtn HB Power O for a cleaner angle. Use the fullback or lead blocker icon to manually pick off the first unblocked linebacker for a bigger gain instead of trusting the CPU block. Pair this with PA Boot or PA Power O later in a series once you have shown Strong Power a few times, since defenders will start crashing down on the run look and open up the play-action window.
