HB Iso from the I Form H Wing set is a power run play that sends the fullback through the hole first to seal the frontside linebacker while the offensive line executes a power blocking scheme with double team combos at the point of attack. This is a downhill run play, not a man or zone beater in the passing sense, designed to create a vertical crease between the guard and tackle. The primary read progression for the ball carrier is to press the fullback's lead block, decide whether to stay on his hip or bounce outside if the alley is clogged, and finish north and south once he clears the second level.
Pre-snap, identify if the defense is in a base 4-3 or 3-4 look with linebackers stacked tight, since that alignment is built to shut down interior iso runs. Watch for a single high safety versus two deep safeties, because a two high shell often means lighter run support in the box and a bigger lane for the fullback to work with. Post-snap, key the frontside linebacker's reaction to the fullback's lead block, if he stacks and holds the point of attack the runner needs to bounce outside immediately. Identify blitz packages that send extra defenders through the A or B gap pre-snap, since a hard downhill blitz can beat the double team before it forms and blow up the play behind the line. Watch for a user-controlled defender flying downhill from depth, this lurk threat is the biggest post-snap key that can turn a positive gain into a loss if the runner does not cut away from him in time.
Look at the box count before the snap and only trust this play when you have five or fewer defenders in the box relative to your blockers since the fullback lead block loses value against extra run support.
Check safety depth and leverage because a single high safety cheating up will fill the alley fast, so be ready to bounce the run outside if you see that rotation.
Use motion or a hot route on the wing to check if the defense shifts a linebacker or safety over the top, which tells you if they are keying run strength.
Pair HB Iso with HB Counter WK and HB Stretch to keep the defense honest on both edges, then come back to HB Iso once linebackers start flowing hard to one side.
Run this on early downs in short yardage or goal line situations where a physical, north and south gain is more valuable than a home run shot, and mix in PA Power O off the same look to punish overaggressive linebackers.
