Double CB Blitz is an all-out pressure package out of the 4-2-5 Over Wide set that sends both cornerbacks off the edges while dropping the secondary into a hybrid zone shell behind them. The linebackers and safeties rotate into short and deep zone drops to protect against quick throws while the corner blitz aims to collapse the pocket before the quarterback can climb. This is a zone blitz beater against slow developing plays, and the primary read is getting immediate eyes to the running back or nearest hot route target since the corner pressure creates a numbers disadvantage on the perimeter almost instantly.
Look for offenses that leave running backs in to block, since a free extra blocker on either edge can pick up the corner blitz and turn this into a coverage bust. Watch for hot route arrows over receivers pre-snap, which usually signals a quick game answer designed to beat the blitz before it arrives. Identify empty or spread formations pre-snap, since the lack of edge help from tight ends or backs makes the corner blitz far more effective against those personnel groupings. Post-snap, track the quarterback's first two steps: if he is escaping to the blitzing side, the rush lanes are winning and the play is on schedule. This blitz gets shut down by max protect schemes and screen game, so if you see six or seven blockers stay in or a screen fake, bail out of the blitz mentally and trust the zone drops behind it.
Call this on third and long or in two minute situations where offenses are more likely to hold blocks and take deep shots, since the corner blitz needs extra time to develop.
Check pre-snap for empty backfield or trips formations that leave your corners without a natural chip from a tight end or running back, since those alignments give the blitz a cleaner runway.
Hot route your slot corner or safety into a shallow hole zone if you see the offense running quick game like slants or stick concepts, since the corner blitz vacates the flat.
Pair this with Cover 3 Sky or Cover 1 Hole earlier in a series so the offense sees a similar pre-snap picture and cannot key the corner blitz off alignment alone.
User the backside corner blitzer manually if the AI rush angle is too wide, since a tighter inside rush path gets home faster against sprint out and rollout play action.
