Shock H Option is an option route based passing concept out of the Shotgun Wide Y Trips WK set that uses pre-snap motion to help identify man versus zone before the ball is even snapped. The H back or slot receiver runs an option route that breaks based on the defender's leverage, giving the quarterback a built in answer against both man and zone coverage. This is primarily a man beater due to the natural rub and option route creating separation, and the primary read progression starts with the motion man's option route before working out to the trips side for a secondary window.
Watch the linebacker or nickel defender assigned to the motion man, if he mirrors across the formation it confirms man coverage and the option route should break open. Check safety alignment before the snap, two high shells force the option route to sit down quicker while single high looks allow a deeper break upfield. Look for shows blitz off the edge, since the option route can convert into a quick hitter that beats pressure before it arrives. Post-snap, key any user controlled lurk defender sitting in the shallow zone, this is the biggest threat to the option route's inside breaking angle. Zone drops with a hard flat defender can undercut the option route's out breaking option, so recognize this quickly and lean on the trips side route combo instead.
Use the pre-snap motion to bait linebackers into declaring man coverage, if the defender follows across the formation you have a mismatch on the option route.
Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or slant if you see single high safety look, this gives you a fast dump off against blitz heavy calls.
Best used on second and medium or third and short since the option route conversion distance depends on the defender's cushion.
