Jet QB Counter is a designed quarterback run out of Shotgun Empty Ace with 12 personnel, using jet motion across the formation to hold the defense before the snap. The offensive line pulls in classic counter fashion, sending a blocker across the formation to lead the QB through the hole while the rest of the line down blocks to seal the point of attack. This is a pure run play with no pass option, and the primary read is a single progression: identify the pulling blocker's kick out and press the hole, reading the edge defender and the flow of the linebackers to decide whether to hit it downhill or bounce it outside.
Defensive Reads
Watch for linebackers flowing hard toward the jet motion pre-snap, since overpursuit opens the counter lane on the backside. If the defense stays home and does not bite on the motion, the counter blocking scheme will lack the misdirection advantage and get strung out. Key the edge defender on the play side, if he crashes down hard on the pulling blocker, the QB has a bounce lane outside. User linebackers who stay disciplined and read the pulling guard can blow this play up by shooting the gap before the lead blocker arrives. Heavy fronts and run blitzes that fill gaps immediately are the biggest threat, since counter needs a beat to develop and blitzers can beat the pull.

Use the jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers into flowing with the sweep action, then let the counter blocking scheme work behind it.
This play hits best against aggressive fronts and defenses that key run flow toward the motion man, so save it for situations where you have already shown jet sweep or outside run tags earlier in the drive.
Run this on early downs in run heavy sets when the defense is playing base personnel without extra DBs, since light boxes get overwhelmed by the pulling guard.
Pair this with Fake Jet Pass Power and PA Jet Sweep in the same set to keep defenders honest, forcing linebackers to respect both the counter run and the play action off the same jet motion look.
Avoid calling this against defenses stacked with extra defenders in the box or teams that consistently spy the QB, since the counter timing needs a clean lane to develop.
