Inside Zone out of Shotgun Doubles Y-Flex Offset is a true zone blocking run play with the RB aligned offset in the backfield behind the QB. Defensive Reads
Watch for a stacked box with 7 or more defenders which signals the defense is selling out to stop the run. Linebackers creeping downhill pre-snap indicate a run blitz or gap shoot, which can be countered by bouncing the run to the backside cutback lane. A single high safety shell often means the defense has committed extra bodies to the run fit, so identify the free hitter at the second level before the snap. Post-snap, key the playside defensive tackle and end for penetration, since a hard charge upfield opens the natural cutback lane for the RB. User controlled linebackers flowing hard to the play side create space for a backside cut, so watch the flow direction of the second level defenders immediately after the snap.
Usage Tips
Run this against light boxes with 6 or fewer defenders in the box to guarantee a numbers advantage up front.
Check the pre-snap alignment of the linebackers, if they are stacked tight to the line expect a fast fill and consider bouncing the run outside with the RB user or hitting a backside cutback lane.
Use manual RB control to press the playside hole and read the double team on the play side guard and tackle before committing to a cut.
Pair this with Outside Zone and HB Draw from the same set to keep linebackers honest on flow direction and prevent them from sitting on inside run fits.
Best called on early downs in normal or run heavy personnel packages to stay ahead of the chains and set up play action shots later in the drive.
