Boomerang Flood H-Sneak Copy is a horizontal flood concept out of Shotgun Bunch TE Str designed to stretch one side of the field with three route levels. Pre-snap motion sends the bunch receiver in orbit across the formation to the boundary, creating a deep out route that stacks with an underneath flat route and a shallow drag coming from the backfield, while the third bunch receiver clears vertically up the seam on the play-side. The tight end and remaining bunch receiver run corner-breaking routes into the void behind the flood, giving the quarterback a full field-side progression that reads low to high starting with the flat, then the drag, and finally the deep out or seam if the underneath defenders bite. This is a zone beater built to attack Cover 3 by overloading the flat and deep third with three vertical stems and a horizontal crosser underneath.
Defensive Reads
Key the flat defender and outside linebacker to the motion side; if they widen too fast with the orbit motion, the drag route underneath will be wide open. Check the deep third defender's depth at the snap; a shallow-playing cornerback signals Cover 3 and tells you the deep out will be there against soft zone coverage. Watch for a Cover 4 or Cover 2 shell rotating hard to the flood side, since that numbers advantage disappears if the safety rotates over the top of the deep out route. Identify blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge to the flood side; if the quarterback cannot get through his first read quickly, the shallow drag becomes the emergency valve. Look for a user-controlled linebacker sitting in the passing lane of the drag route, since a disciplined defender who reads the quarterback's eyes can jump the shallow crosser and blow up the easy completion.
Usage Tips
Use this play on second or third and medium when you expect a zone shell, since the flood concept is purpose built to gash Cover 3 and Cover 4 rotations toward the motion side.
Watch the flat defender before the snap; if he widens with the motion man, throw the drag underneath him immediately for a quick, easy completion.
If the cornerback sinks with the deep out, hit the shallow drag crossing underneath for a man beater conversion against Cover 1 or Cover 2 man.
Pair this play with Boomerang Curl Flats in your call sheet so the defense sees the same bunch motion but has to respect both a curl-flat combo and a full field flood, keeping linebackers guessing on drop depth.
Audible the backside bunch receiver into a shallow drag or slant if you diagnose a heavy blitz look, giving your quarterback a quick outlet away from the flood side.
