Boomerang Flood H-sneak is a three-level flood concept out of a bunch look designed to stretch a Cover 3 cornerback and outside linebacker vertically. The backside receiver runs a deep dig across the middle, one bunch receiver sneaks up the seam to the corner, another runs a flat route to the sideline, and the flat back releases on a wheel route into the boundary while the offensive line picks up protection. The read progression works high to low: check the deep dig first, then the corner route, then settle to the flat or wheel underneath if the deep windows are closed.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check the free safety depth and alignment, a single high safety sitting deep middle signals Cover 3 or Cover 1 which this flood concept is built to exploit. Watch the flat defender and corner at the snap, if they both widen with the flat and corner routes it opens a throwing lane for the deep dig crossing underneath the safety. Track the linebacker assigned to the flat back, a linebacker who sinks into a shallow zone instead of matching the wheel route leaves the sideline wide open for an explosive gain. This concept struggles against Cover 4 or Cover 2 shells with two deep safeties since both the corner route and dig run into help over the top, forcing the quarterback to check down early. Watch for a user-controlled defender lurking underneath the dig route, a smart defender sitting in that throwing window can jump the route and create a turnover if the quarterback stares it down too long.
Usage Tips
Look for single high safety alignment pre-snap since this flood concept punishes Cover 3 and Cover 1 defenders who have to cover multiple levels with one deep third defender.
Use the H motion before the snap to identify if the defense is playing man or zone, a defender following the motion man across the formation confirms man coverage and tells you to prioritize the wheel route out of the backfield.
Hot route the backside dig into a shallow cross against tight man coverage if you need a faster underneath answer versus aggressive press corners.
This play works best on second or third and medium situations where the defense expects a quick game concept, the deep shots off the flood look catch defenders sitting on shorter routes.
Pair this with Boomerang Curl Flats and Boomerang HB Angle from the same set so the defense sees identical formation and motion but has to respect different route depths and angles, keeping linebackers and safeties guessing.
