HB Power G out of Pistol Trips Y Over is a gap scheme run play built to create a numbers advantage on the backside guard pull. The play side double teams the down lineman while the backside guard pulls through the hole to lead block, giving the running back a designed crease between the tackle and tight end. This is a run play, not a pass concept, so the primary read progression for the ball carrier is to press the play side hole, read the pulling guard's block, and decide between the A gap crease or bouncing outside if the edge defender crashes down.
Look for a stacked box with eight or more defenders which signals the defense is selling out to stop the run and you should audible to a pass Identify if the defensive line is shaded toward the trips side, since that alignment often leaves a soft edge on the backside for the pulling guard to reach Watch the play side linebacker's depth at the snap, if he is sitting shallow and reading the backfield he can beat the puller and blow up the play Key the safety rotation post snap, a single high safety who stays deep leaves the box light and favors this run, while two deep safeties who crash down signal a run blitz look Track the edge defender or outside linebacker on the play side, if he crashes hard inside to string out the run the ball carrier should bounce it outside off the pulling guard's block
Check the box count before the snap and only run this into light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the tackle box
Use the trips side pre-snap motion or a hot route check to bait a linebacker or safety out of the box if you see man coverage indicators
Pair this with HB Zone and HB Zone Wk in the same set so defenders cannot sit on one blocking scheme and start jumping the pulling guard
Run this on early downs like first and ten or second and short to stay ahead of the chains and set up PA Dagger or PA Stretch off the same run action later in the series
User the fullback or lead blocker with the right stick to seal an extra defender if the CPU AI blocker whiffs on the linebacker fill
