Blitz Loop 3 is a disguised pressure package out of the 3-3 Swap Dbl Mug front designed to confuse offensive line protection with a stunt or loop from one of the interior rushers while dropping into a Cover 3 shell behind it. The double mug alignment shows two off ball linebackers stacked at the line to sell an overload blitz, then the loop action sends a rusher looping around the initial gap to attack a different lane once the tackle commits. Primary read for the defense is to time the loop rusher to hit as the quarterback climbs the pocket, using the Cover 3 shell underneath to take away quick game and force a hold on the ball.
Read the offensive tackle's first step at the snap, if he opens outside to pass protect the loop rusher has a clean lane to the inside gap Watch for a hot route slot or running back releasing quickly to the flat, that release is the primary counter to this stunt and must be picked up by the underneath zone defender Key the quarterback's eyes before the snap, if he is locked on a boundary route this blitz gets home before the protection can adjust This play struggles against max protect or six man protection schemes since there are not enough gaps to exploit with only one loop rusher Beats quick game and three step drop concepts that expect four man pressure, but gets picked apart by hot routes into the flat or screen game if the offense identifies the mug bluff pre snap
Use this play on early downs or third and medium when you expect the offense to call a quick game or three step drop since the disguised mug look bait shotgun quarterbacks into rushing their read
Show the same double mug pre snap alignment on Blitz Loop 0 and Blitz Loop Sim 3 before calling this play so quarterbacks cannot key off the stack to identify the loop concept
Manually control the looping defender if you are worried about a running back leaking out to the flat, since the AI loop path can be late getting to its rush lane against quick check downs
Pair this call with Cover 3 Match or Cover 3 Sky earlier in a series to establish the same shell shape, then bring Blitz Loop 3 when the offense starts trusting the underneath zones are soft
Avoid calling this against empty formations or spread sets that flood the loop rusher's lane with a hot route receiver, since the extra blocker or route runner can pick off the stunt before it develops
