Defenses that stay disciplined with two-gapping technique or that spy the fullback's pull path can blow this play up before it develops, so a controlled defensive line that reads blocks rather than shooting gaps shuts this down. User the middle linebacker and key the fullback's release, if you flow with the fullback's block path you can beat the trap to the point of attack and force the ball carrier to cut back into a crowded box. Stacked fronts and gap-sound defenses with a spy or extra hat in the box neutralize this run, since the trap only works when the defense over-commits to one side of the formation.
Usage Tips
Use 0 1 Trap when the defense shows an aggressive front that likes to shoot gaps or crash down hard on the snap, since the trap block turns their own aggression into a cutback lane.
Look for linebackers cheating toward the strength of the formation pre-snap, this play punishes overplayed run fits by hitting the opposite gap once the trap seals the edge defender.
Pair this with FB Dive Strong and HB Inside in the same drive to keep defenders honest, since all three attack similar gaps but with different blocking angles and will condition the defense to guess wrong.
