Cover 2 Invert

Read the quarterback's initial look to the flats first since your inverted corners are sitting right in those passing lanes and can jump underneath routes for a quick pass breakup or pick. Watch for two-high safety alignment pre-snap from the offense as a tell that they are anticipating standard Cover 2 and may try to attack the seams, so be ready for your safeties to leverage those throwing windows. Post-snap, key any receiver breaking outside at intermediate depth since the corner invert leaves a natural passing lane over the top that only the rotating safety can close, so time your safety break to arrive before the ball. This shell struggles against quick slants and drag routes across the middle since the underneath zone in the box can get stressed by three or four crossing routes, so user your Mike linebacker to rob the shallow crossers if you see a heavy crossing concept. Deep comebacks and out routes thrown with timing against the sinking corners can exploit the invert if your corner breaks too late, so make sure your user-controlled defender stays patient and does not bite on pump fakes before committing to the flat.
