94 Will is a power run play out of the Weak I under Slot Open, designed to hit off tackle to the strong side. The fullback leads through the hole and kicks out the edge defender while the play side tackle and tight end (or extra blocker) seal the defensive end, creating a running lane for the halfback to press downhill before bending it outside if the alley fills. This is a base gap scheme run, not a man or zone beater passing concept, and the primary read is the fullback's kick out block: the halfback presses the hole and reads whether to cut inside the kick or bounce it outside based on how the edge defender is blocked.
Check for a stacked box pre-snap. If the defense shows eight in the box or an extra linebacker walked up, this play will struggle to find room. Identify whether the strong safety is rolled down. A downhill safety is the key defender who can blow up the fullback's kick out block before it develops. Watch the play side defensive end and outside linebacker. If they are scraping hard to string the play out, the ball carrier needs to press and cut back inside quickly. This run is vulnerable to A gap or B gap blitzes that shoot through before the fullback can get to his landmark, so a fast interior blitz timed with the snap can blow this up for a loss. Man coverage on the backside with no extra run support tends to leave a clean lane, so if cornerbacks are locked in press or off man with no safety help in the box, expect this play to hit for a solid gain.
Run this out of Weak I when you have a numbers advantage in the box, ideally six or fewer defenders showing pre-snap.
Check the strong safety alignment before the snap. If he is walked down into the box, expect a heavy front and be ready to bounce the run outside off the fullback's kick out.
Use 94 Will on early downs to stay ahead of the chains, then pair it with Power O and PA Power O from the same set to keep defenses honest about the strong side gap.
If the defense stacks the box to stop the run, sequence into Curls or Corner Flat out of the same formation to punish overaggressive linebackers with play action shots.
Watch for user linebackers flowing hard downhill. If they overpursue, cut back against the grain since the backside is often thin in this personnel look.
