Watch for defensive tackles who read run through their gaps rather than crashing upfield, as controlled gap discipline from the interior line kills this concept. Man coverage with underneath defenders sitting in run support, especially strong safety in the box, is the shell most likely to blow this play up before it develops.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs or in 2nd and short situations where defenses are more likely to sit back in coverage or bring a delayed blitz. Watch pre-snap linebacker depth: if the Mike and Sam are creeping up expecting a pass, that is your green light since the draw action will suck them upfield. Pair this with Curl Flat or Dagger from the same Slot Flex set so defenses cannot key on formation tendency and start jumping the draw. Use manual control on the HB to press the hole shown by the FB block, then be ready to bounce outside if the defensive tackle penetration collapses the point of attack.
