Power O out of the Strong I H Slot formation is a gap scheme run play designed to pull the backside guard through the hole while the fullback leads through as the primary blocker at the point of attack. The diagram shows the HB taking a downhill path off tackle to the strong side with the FB kicking out to seal the edge defender, creating a tight run lane behind the double team at the line of scrimmage. This is a run play built to win with numbers and double teams at the point of attack rather than deception, with the primary read being the play side gap and then bouncing outside off the FB kick block if the alley is clogged.
Defensive Reads
Watch for a stacked box with the SS or a linebacker cheating down pre-snap, that alignment is designed to beat gap schemes like Power O by adding a extra run fitter. User controlled defenders flowing hard downhill at the snap are trying to blow up the pulling guard, if you see this shift your aiming point outside off the FB kick. Against a nano blitz or edge pressure look for the FB kick block to be overwhelmed, which means the ball carrier needs to cut back away from the pressure immediately. Zone defenses that spill everything outside can shut this down by forcing the runner into pursuit, counter this by setting up Counter Weak from the same formation to attack the opposite direction. Linebacker depth is the key post snap indicator: shallow linebackers who fill fast will clog the gap, so patience behind the double team block becomes critical before committing to a lane.
Usage Tips
Run this out of 21 personnel on early downs to keep the defense honest against your play-action shots later in the drive.
Check the box count before the snap: if the defense has six or more in the box, consider audibling to HB Dive or Counter Weak instead to attack a different gap.
Use the FB lead block as your visual cue, if the user pulls the FB defender off the line pre-snap expect a lighter box and hit the hole downhill without hesitation.

Best called on first and second down in short yardage or when you need to establish tempo, since the gap scheme blocking punishes light boxes and slow linebacker fits.
