Fk FB Toss Rollout Lt is a play-action rollout off the FB Toss fake in the Split T Tight formation, designed to sell the toss to the left before the QB rolls out with the pocket. Off the fake, one receiver runs a deep comeback breaking back toward the sideline, a second works an out and up the seam that levels off into an out route, and a third receiver runs a shallow drag underneath from the backfield area to the opposite flat, giving the QB a three level read on the move. This is a play-action man and zone beater built around run fits, since the fake forces linebackers and safeties to step up before the QB rolls with real run and throw options.
As the defense, key the offensive line and fullback for run blocking action, if they sell toss hard to the left, stay disciplined with linebackers instead of crashing downhill. Spy or contain the QB rollout lane to the left since this play lives on the edge, an unblocked edge defender who stays home kills the entire concept. Watch cornerback depth on the comeback route, off man coverage with a hard outside jam takes away the sideline break. Zone defenses with a flat defender sitting on the drag route and a deep third defender staying disciplined on the comeback will force the QB to hold the ball and scramble. User a linebacker to spy the rollout lane or blitz off the edge before the fake fully develops to disrupt the timing of all three route levels.
Run this from run-heavy personnel and early down and distance so linebackers respect the FB Toss fake and bite on the play fake. Pair this with FB Toss and Fk FB Toss Boot Lt in the same drive to condition the defense to the toss action, then hit this rollout when they start flowing hard to the run. Pre-snap, check for aggressive safety and linebacker alignment near the line of scrimmage, that tells you the fake will hold defenders long enough for the rollout to develop. Hot route the drag into a deeper crosser if you see zone defenders sitting underneath, and keep the comeback route as your first read against man coverage since the break back to the sideline creates instant separation. Use the rollout to buy extra time against interior pressure since the QB is moving away from the strength of most inside blitzes.
