PA Waggle from Singleback Tight Flex is a play-action rollout that pulls the QB away from the play fake toward the boundary receiver's side. The diagram shows both outside receivers pushing vertical up the seams, the TE running a delayed drag across the formation into the flat as the underneath crosser, and the HB checking the backside protection before leaking out to the opposite flat as a safety valve. This is a run-action play-action design built to freeze linebackers and attack zone coverage, with the QB rollout creating a natural half-field read on the TE drag and flat routes underneath the two vertical clear-outs.
Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing man coverage with corners playing tight technique, since the vertical routes can win one-on-one against slower man defenders but the rollout timing is tighter against disciplined man teams. Watch linebacker depth at the snap: if they sit and read instead of flowing with the run fake, the TE drag and flat routes will be squeezed into a shrinking window underneath. Key the flow of the middle linebacker in Cover 3 or Cover 1 since a lurking defender who stays home can jump the TE drag route and turn it into a pick-six opportunity. Watch for a user-controlled defender spying the QB rollout, especially on obvious play-action downs, since an aggressive spy or contain defender can blow up the timing before the drag route develops. Look for edge blitzes or overload pressure to the play side of the rollout, since PA Waggle is vulnerable to fast contain rushers who close the pocket before the QB can set his feet.
Run this on early downs, especially first and second and medium, so the run fake actually holds linebackers and safeties before they can key pass.
Pre-snap, look for two high safeties or Cover 3 shells since the rollout action punishes teams that flow hard to stop outside zone or gap runs.
Use the TE drag as your first read on the rollout since it settles into the void vacated by linebackers biting on the run fake, then work to the HB flat route as your checkdown if the drag is taken away.
Hot route the backside vertical into a comeback or hitch if you are facing zone coverage that sits on deep routes, since it gives you a quick sideline outlet without needing a full rollout read.
Pair this with HB Dive or HB Slam earlier in a series to sell the run threat, then hit PA Waggle once the defense starts crashing downhill on run fits.
