HB Draw out of Singleback Tight Flex 11 personnel shows the offensive line selling a drop back pass set before the HB presses the line of scrimmage and works downhill through the interior gaps. The diagram shows the backfield delay action with the running back stepping toward the quarterback before cutting upfield, disguised behind the pass pro fan blocking from the line. This is a run play designed to bait aggressive pass rush and blitz packages, with the primary read being the initial gap the offensive line opens at the mesh point before bending outside if the alley is clogged.
Key the defensive line for delayed pass rush stunts and contain rush, since disciplined edge players will sniff out the draw action and squeeze the pocket. Watch middle linebacker depth at the snap, shallow linebackers who read run fits fast will close the interior lanes immediately. If the defense shows Cover 3 or Cover 4 with linebackers sinking into zone drops, the draw hits because underneath run support is delayed. User controlled defenders spying the quarterback or sitting in the hole will diagnose this quickly, so avoid this play against defenses that consistently spy or blitz through the A gap. Look for safeties staying high in two high shells, which signals light box counts and more room for the back to break through the second level.
Call this on early downs after showing multiple pass plays from Tight Flex to condition the defense into rushing hard off the edge.
Use it as a changeup on 2nd or 3rd and short when the defense has shown blitz tendencies on previous snaps.
Watch pre-snap linebacker depth: if they are crashing downhill on run keys, this play loses value, but if they are backpedaling into pass drops it hits big.
Pair this with PA Waggle or PA Draw Cross from the same set so the defense cannot key run versus pass off formation alone.
Avoid calling this into heavy blitz shows with defensive line stunts, since the delayed mesh point gets blown up before the back can find the crease.
