RPO Walk Glance is a run pass option out of Shotgun Wide Y Off Trips that pairs an inside zone run look with a quick glance route from the trips side. The glance concept gives the quarterback a fast inside read against overaggressive linebackers, while the backside receiver works a quick out or hitch to hold corners honest. This is a true RPO and light zone beater, and the primary read progression is the run/pass key defender (usually the second level linebacker closest to the box) followed immediately by the glance route if he crashes down on the run fake.
Watch the play side linebacker depth and shoulder turn immediately after the snap, since flowing hard toward the run opens the glance throw Man coverage on the trips receivers, especially with a corner shaded inside, signals a tough window for the glance and favors sticking with the run Two high safety shells with soft linebacker depth tend to get gashed by the run action since the glance threat holds the second level Single high looks with an aggressive box, like Cover 1 or Cover 3 with fast flowing linebackers, can bait the quarterback into the glance read but risk a lurking underneath defender jumping the route User controlled defenders sitting in the shallow flat or spying the mesh point are the biggest threat to this concept, so track the user player before deciding between the give and the glance
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is in a two high shell or single high look, since light boxes with two high safeties make the run key easier to diagnose and open up the glance window
Use the trips alignment to force the defense into showing man or zone leverage before the snap, then key the flow of the second level defender closest to the run action
If the defender sits or shows zone drop discipline, take the automatic run read instead of forcing the glance throw into a covered window
Hot route the backside single receiver into a quick slant or speed out if you expect man coverage, giving yourself a simple two way go against blitz heavy fronts
Pair this play with RPO Walk Alert Slant and RPO Walk Alert Curls in your call sheet so the defense cannot sit on one specific RPO read from snap to snap
