PA Walk Slot Choice is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Wide Y Off Trips that disguises HB Power G with a hard fake to hold the linebackers before working a choice route from the slot receiver. The choice route reads the defender in real time, breaking outside against off coverage or sitting down against man press, while the trips side clears space with vertical releases from the outside receivers. This is a man beater at its core, since the choice route is designed to win one-on-one leverage, though it also holds up against zone if you get the slot defender to bite on the run fake. Your primary read starts with the choice route out of the slot, then progresses to the Y crossing underneath if the choice gets jumped, with the outside vertical as a shot-play checkdown against single high safety looks.
Pre-snap, identify single high versus two high safety shells, since single high leaves the choice route matched up favorably against man coverage with less deep help. Watch linebacker depth at the snap. If they sit and read instead of stepping up on the run fake, the play-action element is neutralized and you should get the ball out on time to the choice route before the pocket collapses. Post-snap, key the slot corner or nickel defender's technique. Off coverage means the choice route will break outside for separation, while press or bail technique means the choice sits down for the sideline stem. Beware of user-controlled defenders sitting in the shallow zone or lurking underneath, since a smart user player can jump the choice route if you telegraph the throw too early. This play struggles against disciplined zone drops from a two high shell where safeties stay deep and linebackers stay in their run and pass responsibilities, so recognize that pattern quickly and check down to Y crossing instead of forcing the choice route.
Run this on early downs, ideally first or second and short to medium, so the play fake actually threatens the defense and freezes linebackers.
Check the safety alignment before the snap. If you see two high safeties sitting deep, the play fake will not hold them, so lean on the choice route breaking off the slot defender's leverage instead of trying to hit anything over the top.
Hot route the outside receiver into a hitch or quick out if you see a corner playing hard outside leverage, since that gives you a quick answer if the choice route gets taken away by underneath help.
