RPO Alert Power Hitches pairs the Power G run scheme with a hitch-based read for the quarterback, giving you a true run-pass option out of Shotgun 11 personnel. The offensive line pulls the backside guard for Power while the receivers settle into quick hitches, so the QB reads the alert defender (usually a flowing linebacker or overhang) to decide whether to hand off or pull and throw. This is a defense-neutral RPO built to punish light boxes with the run and attack aggressive linebacker flow with the hitch as a built-in checkmate against blitz or run-fill triggers.
Watch the play side linebacker depth pre-snap, if he is sitting shallow expecting run he becomes the alert key that triggers the hitch throw Check safety rotation before the snap, a single high safety with the corners playing off suggests the hitch will be there against soft zone drops Man coverage on the outside receivers with no underneath help invites an easy quick game completion off the hitch since there is no throwing window issue Aggressive blitz packages that send extra defenders after the snap can be beaten by the hitch since the ball comes out before pressure arrives, but slow developing blitzes can also open running lanes if the alert defender bites on the fake User controlled defenders spying the run action or sitting on the hitch route in zone coverage are the biggest threat, if the user comes downhill hard on run keys reset to Power G as a true handoff instead of pulling the ball
Check the box count before the snap and use this play when you see six or fewer defenders in the box since that confirms the Power run lane is favorable
If the alert defender (usually the play side linebacker or slot defender) crashes down hard on run action, pull and hit the hitch immediately for a free access completion
Use this on early downs in normal or run heavy personnel situations where defenses are more likely to sit in base fronts and bite on run action
