PA Walk Glance N Go is a play-action shot play out of Shotgun Wide Doubles Y Off WK designed to attack the deep middle and boundary with a double vertical shot concept. The play fakes an outside zone or gap run action to freeze linebackers and hold the safeties, then hits the offense with a glance route working across the middle paired with a go route stretching the numbers vertically. Primary read progression starts with the go route on a one on one outside if the corner bites on the run fake, then works to the glance route sitting behind linebackers and in front of deep safety help if the shot is not there immediately.
Watch the play side cornerback at the snap, if he steps up to defend the run fake the go route wins immediately over the top. Key the linebackers for their reaction to the run fake, aggressive linebacker flow toward the line of scrimmage opens the glance route in the vacated middle of the field. Identify single high versus two high safety shells before the snap, single high with man coverage underneath is the ideal matchup for this concept. Beware of a user controlled deep safety staying home over the top, that defender can rob the go route and force a difficult throw window. Look for a delayed blitz or a linebacker spy disguised as run support, since this can collapse the pocket before the double move routes fully develop downfield.
Use this on early downs when defenses are keying run based on personnel and formation tendencies since the play action sells best when the defense expects Power G or another run look from this same set.
Check the safety alignment before the snap, a single high shell with the free safety cheating late gives you the go route matchup you want on the outside.
If you see two high safeties rotating down into the box pre snap, that usually means man coverage underneath, so prioritize the glance route since it settles into the void created by the run fake.
Pair this shot play with Power G and RPO Walk Alert Power earlier in a series so the defense commits to stopping the run, then call this play to cash in on the play action freeze.
Avoid calling this against defenses sitting in soft zone shells with deep safeties already backpedaling pre snap, since the play action fake will not move them and both routes get taken away.
