Mtn Slot Post is a Shotgun 11 personnel dropback pass out of Doubles Flex Wk Swap that uses a pre-snap motion to a swap release on the left side. Post-motion, the outside receiver runs a vertical post from the slot alignment, the inside receiver on that side runs a corner breaking route underneath it, and the backside receiver runs a deep in that crosses the middle of the field while the motion man releases outside on a wheel route from the backfield area. The concept stresses zone defenses by clearing out the middle with the post and corner combo while giving a check down option to the crossing route, with the primary read starting on the post to the deep in and working down to the wheel if the coverage rolls away from the boundary.
Defensive Reads
Watch the safety alignment before the snap, two high shells favor the post and corner combo since it forces a safety to choose which route to carry deep. If the defense shows single high with the free safety shaded to the boundary side, expect the post to be taken away and look to the deep in route sitting underneath. Track the linebacker assigned to the motion man, a quick outside leverage jump signals man coverage and the wheel route can win over the top on a blown assignment. Cover 2 shells with hard corners squatting on the flat routes will bait the quarterback into the post, so user the deep half safety promptly to close the passing window.
