3 DBL Mable Cloud is a dime/quarter package zone defense built out of the Big Quarter 1-3-7 personnel to combat 4 and 5 receiver spread looks in obvious passing situations. The concept pairs a cloud corner technique on one side with Mable underneath zone rules, meaning the flat defender sinks under the number two receiver while the corner squats over the number one to take away quick outs and hitches. This is a zone beater killer at its core, designed to shut down slot fades, curl flat combos, and quick game throws, with the primary read progression starting at the flat defender reading the number two receiver's release before working up to the deep quarter safety on any vertical push from the outside.
Pre-snap, identify if the quarterback is looking to attack the flat with quick game, since Mable cloud technique is built to bait that throw and close on it Watch the number two receiver's stem, if he breaks outside quickly the flat defender should already be sinking to cut off the angle Post-snap, key the deep quarter safety on your cloud corner's side, if he stays high on a vertical release you have double coverage on any go or corner route This shell is vulnerable to deep crossing routes and dig concepts that attack the seam between the cloud corner and the underneath zone, so watch for user receivers sitting in that window Blitz packages that pull an underneath defender will create a soft spot in the flat, so if the offense sends a hot route into that vacated zone be ready to rally with a linebacker
Call this on third and long or in two minute drill situations when you expect a spread formation and quick passing concepts from the offense
Check the offensive personnel pre-snap, if you see three or more receivers to one side, align your cloud corner leverage inside to force throws to the sideline where your flat defender is sitting
Use your user controlled defender to sit in the shallow flat zone and jump any curl or speed out route, this is the biggest home run stopper in the play
Pair this with Cover 3 Mable and Cover 4 Drop in your play calling sequence so the offense cannot key on your shell based on personnel alone
Avoid calling this against heavy run personnel since the underneath zone spacing leaves light run fits, save it for known pass situations
