The route concept pairs a deep corner route from the outside receiver with an underneath spot combo (flat and hitch) to hold off zone defenders while stretching the sideline vertically. Primary read progression starts with the corner route against single high or man coverage, then works down to the spot concept underneath if the corner is capped, making this a solid man and zone beater depending on the leverage of the boundary corner and safety.
Watch the strong safety depth before the snap, if he is sitting at 8 to 10 yards it usually signals Cover 3 or Cover 4 which invites the corner route into the open void Key the flat defender post snap, if he widens too fast to cover the flat route it opens a throwing lane for the spot route sitting underneath Beware Cover 2 shells with a hard corner press since the deep corner route can get squeezed by the corner and safety working together over the top User controlled defenders sitting on the corner route as a lurk threat will bait the QB into checking down, so have a plan to attack the spot concept if that happens Blitz packages that bring extra defenders off the edge can disrupt the play fake timing, so be ready to throw off rhythm or check to the flat route as a quick outlet against pressure
