Texas X-Choice out of Shotgun Go Go Twins Flex sends the outer twins receiver on a deep vertical seam while the inner slot runs a choice/option route breaking outside underneath it, creating a natural high-low stretch on the numbers. On the backside, the single receiver runs a deep corner route while the TE or slot works a quick option cut underneath, giving a mirrored two-level read to the boundary. The HB releases up the middle on a check-release option route as the checkdown, and this concept is built as a man beater, using the choice routes to counter tight coverage while the vertical seam and corner stress deep zone defenders.
Read the safety alignment pre-snap, two deep safeties suggest Cover 2 or Cover 4 which invites the choice routes to settle in soft spots underneath the corners. Watch cornerback depth at the snap, press corners are vulnerable to the choice route's quick outside break while off corners can trigger a spot drop overreaction. Key the linebacker depth and drop, a shallow linebacker crashing on the HB check-release route opens the underneath choice route for an easy pitch and catch. Look for user lurk defenders sitting in the middle of the field, since the vertical seam route can get squeezed if a rover or mike linebacker sinks into that throwing lane. This concept struggles against a disguised Cover 6 or a hard match zone that carries the seam route vertically while a flat defender jumps the choice route's break point.
Pre-snap, identify if the corners are pressed or off since the choice routes are designed to break away from press coverage for an easy separation win.
Against man coverage, prioritize the choice routes early in the read progression because the option receiver can settle or break based on leverage.
Against zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4, work the vertical seam route on the strong side since it splits the deep defenders and creates a explosive play window.
Use this play on second or third and medium situations where the choice route conversion sticks the chains and the vertical seam threatens a chunk gain.
Pair this play with HB Base or Inside Zone Split earlier in a drive to set up run fits, then dial up Texas X-Choice to punish linebackers who bite on the play action look.
