HB Slip Screen out of Shotgun Go Go Twins Flex is a designed screen pass built to slow down aggressive pass rushers and blitz-heavy defenses. The offensive line sells pass pro before releasing to wall off defenders in front of the HB, who slips out to the flat behind that screen wall while the outfield receivers run vertical clear-out routes (a deep post and corner) to pull coverage away from the underneath area. The primary read progression is the HB out of the backfield first, with the deep routes acting purely as decoys to occupy corners and safeties rather than actual first options.
Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing a blitz look with LBs stacked near the line or DBs creeping into the box, since this play is designed to punish that aggression. Watch for a spy or a linebacker who stays home instead of rushing, as that defender is the biggest threat to blow up the screen before blocks develop. Man coverage on the outside receivers is ideal for the offense because it removes defenders from the shallow screen area entirely. Zone shells with disciplined underneath defenders, especially a Tampa 2 or Cover 3 sink with linebackers sitting in short zones, can read the screen and close throwing lanes quickly. If you are on defense, key the guards and center releasing upfield instead of engaging the rush, that flat release is the tell for the screen every time.
Call this on third and short to third and medium when you have identified pressure looks or overload blitzes pre-snap, since the screen naturally voids the rush lanes defenders vacate. Check the defensive line splits and second-level LB depth before the snap: if you see wide DE alignments or LBs creeping to the line, this is a green light. Motion is not needed here, but use your pre-snap key to confirm man coverage on the outside receivers, since their vertical routes will occupy corners in man and open the screen lane. Pair this with Mesh Traffic or Texas X-Choice earlier in a series so the defense respects quick underneath throws, making the screen hit even harder off blitz tendencies. Avoid calling this against disciplined zone defenses with spy linebackers who sit and read, since they can jump the screen before blockers get set.
