Breakdown

Jet Touch Pass is a quick-hitting horizontal play out of Shotgun Doubles Off Close that uses a jet motion man crossing the backfield to receive an immediate touch pass behind the line of scrimmage. The diagram shows the motion receiver catching the ball in stride and running outside while a shallow crosser cuts underneath from the opposite side, with the offensive line holding up front to protect the quick throw. This is a zone beater designed to get the ball out fast on the perimeter before defenders can react, and the primary read is the jet motion man in space with the shallow crosser as a check down if the flow overplays the jet.

Defensive Reads

Watch for linebackers flowing hard with the jet motion, that overcommitment is what this play exploits so a disciplined defense that stays home kills it Man coverage that follows the motion man across the formation with a trailing defender takes away the easy pitch and forces a tougher throw Look for a user controlled defender staying flat footed at the snap, that is the sign the offense expects to exploit lateral space Zone shells with cornerbacks sitting deep and not closing on the touch pass leave the underneath area open, so squeeze the corner down if you see this look Blitz packages that send extra rushers off the edge away from the motion can disrupt the timing since the quarterback has no time to reset if the first read is covered

Usage Tips

Snap the ball right as the jet motion man crosses the backfield to sell the timing and prevent linebackers from sitting on the throw

Use this against teams that flow hard to jet sweep motion since the touch pass hits behind that flow for an easy gain

Combine this with PA Jet Sweep and Zone Fake Jet in the same set so defenses cannot key the motion and jump the route every snap

Best called on first or second down in space friendly situations where you want a low risk gain and want to bait aggressive defenders into overrunning the play

If the defense shows a hard edge blitz to the motion side, get the ball out immediately since the blocking upfront is not designed to hold long
