SFT Bounce Zone Wk is an inside zone run out of Shotgun Bunch Offset Close, with pre-snap motion bringing a receiver across the formation before the snap to shift numbers and identify man versus zone coverage. The offensive line executes a zone blocking scheme, stepping in unison toward the play side to create a wall and seal the edge, allowing the ball carrier to press the line and bounce outside if the inside lanes are clogged. This is a zone run play designed to punish overaggressive defensive fronts and light boxes, with the primary read being the play side double team and backside cutback lane before deciding to bounce it outside.
Defensive Reads
Watch linebacker depth pre-snap. Stacked or shallow linebackers signal they are ready to crash the zone run, so be ready to press the cutback. Key the defensive end and edge defender reaction to the zone blocking. If they crash hard inside, the bounce outside is there. Man coverage on the motion receiver often means the defense is playing base fronts, which are more vulnerable to inside zone cutbacks. Watch for a lurking linebacker or safety sitting in the box who can blow up the cutback lane before it develops. Heavy blitz packages with extra defenders crashing the line can beat this run, so check for stacked fronts or overload blitz alignments before snapping.
Usage Tips
Use the pre-snap motion to bait linebackers into flowing early, which opens up the cutback lane if they overrun the play.
Check the box count before the snap. If the defense has six or more in the box, consider audibling to a play-action shot from this same set instead.
Take the outside bounce read against defenses that crash their defensive ends hard inside, since the zone blocking scheme is designed to seal and let the back bounce.
