SFT Bounce PA Double Post is a play-action shot play out of the Shotgun Bunch Offset Close set that sends both outside receivers on vertical posts from the bunch side, crossing paths near the second level before splitting toward opposite hashes. The single receiver on the backside runs a corner breaking route that climbs to the sideline, giving you a three-level stretch on that half of the field, while the H-back or FB releases into a shallow flat route as the checkdown after selling run action. The blocking scheme is play-action with the offensive line executing run-fake steps to hold linebackers, and the primary read progression starts with the deep post that clears first (right side post to the far hash), then works to the crossing post underneath it, and finally checks down to the flat route if both posts are covered.
Defensive Reads
Identify single-high safety alignment before the snap, this is the primary weakness the double post concept is designed to exploit by forcing the deep defender to choose a side. Key the middle linebacker and deep safety after the snap, if the safety bites on play-action or bails late, both posts have a window to work with against Cover 1 or Cover 3. Watch for Cover 4 or Cover 2 shells with two deep safeties, this can squeeze the post routes into traffic and force the quarterback to work the underdo flat route instead. Man coverage with off-technique corners is vulnerable to the post breaks, but press man corners can disrupt the release and timing of both post routes at the line. User a rangy safety or linebacker to sit in the middle of the field and lurk between the two posts, this take away throw discourages the deep shot and bait the quarterback into the flat checkdown.
Usage Tips
Look for single-high safety shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3 pre-snap since the double post concept is built to split the deep middle defender and attack the seams on either side.
Use motion across the formation before the snap to identify man coverage, if the defender follows across the formation you know you have a leverage advantage on the post routes.
Hot route the flat route runner into a quick out if you are facing a hard blitz look, this gives you a fast release valve against pressure without abandoning the shot play concept.
This play works best on early downs or in shot play sequences where you have already established the run game, since the play-action freeze on linebackers depends on defenders respecting the run fake.
