SFT Bounce Mesh Drive is a classic mesh concept out of Shotgun Bunch Offset Close. Off the bunch alignment, two receivers cross underneath at the same depth to create a natural rub against man coverage while a third receiver runs a drive route stopping in the shallow flat, and the backside X breaks off a deep comeback at the boundary. The lone outside receiver on the far side pushes vertically up the seam for a shot play if the coverage bites on the mesh underneath, making this a true man beater with a built in zone answer over the middle. Primary progression starts with the mesh crossers underneath, works to the drive/flat route, and comes back to the deep comeback if the top of the coverage opens up.
Watch the mesh crossers immediately after the snap since man coverage defenders will get picked or hung up if they try to trail through traffic, so a hard switch or user swat is mandatory. Key the flat/drive route with an underneath zone defender or spy since that route sits down and is the quarterback's first checkdown against pressure. If you see two high safeties pre-snap this indicates Cover 4 or Cover 2, meaning the offense is hunting the seam shot on the backside, so widen your safety to eliminate the vertical stem. Blitzing off the edge can disrupt the timing of the mesh since the quarterback needs a clean pocket to read the crossers develop, so a well timed nano blitz or contain rush forces an early, inaccurate throw. Cover 3 with a hard buzz from the strong safety into the shallow zone takes away the drive route and forces the quarterback into the tighter mesh window, which is the best coverage shell to shut this play down.
Use pre-snap motion out of the bunch to force the defense to declare man or zone before the snap, since the mesh crossers only get a clean pick if defenders are locked in man coverage. Against zone shells, key on the drive route sitting down in the shallow flat since it is your built in zone beater against Cover 3 or Cover 4 sky rotations. If the corner presses the bunch, hot route the crossers to a quicker mesh depth so they clear the line of scrimmage before the LB flow closes the window. This play pairs well with SFT Bounce PA Double Post and PA X Whip Crosser since both use the same bunch look, so you can sequence them to keep the defense guessing between mesh traffic and vertical shots off the same formation. Best called on early downs or third and short to medium since the mesh window develops quickly and the comeback gives you a built in checkdown against soft coverage.
