Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check safety depth: two high safeties often signal zone drops that favor the post sitting in the middle void, while a single high safety suggests man coverage that lets the drag win easily underneath. Watch cornerback alignment on the outside receiver running the corner route, since press man leaves him vulnerable to a double move but soft coverage bails and takes away the deep shot. Post-snap, key the middle linebacker's drop, if he sinks with the post route the drag becomes the clear answer, if he jumps the drag the post opens up behind him. User-controlled defenders sitting in the shallow zone or spying the drag can bait a scramble in this design, so account for a lurking defender crashing down before releasing the throw.
