Nfl Kickoff

The Nfl Kickoff set is the standard deep kickoff package in the Kickoff formation, built around the modern NFL kickoff alignment. Instead of the old running start, your kicker sets up alone while the ten coverage players stage much closer to the return team, and nobody on either side can release until the ball lands or is touched in the landing zone. This set gives you no onside or surprise looks. It is a pure field position tool with three plays: Kickoff Deep Left, Kickoff Deep Middle, and Kickoff Deep Right.

The set is not about isolating receivers. Its version of a matchup advantage is directional placement. Deep Left and Deep Right push the ball toward a sideline, so the returner starts with the boundary acting as an extra defender and his cutback lanes shrink. Deep Middle keeps the return lanes balanced and gives your kicker the most room for error on accuracy. It is the safest choice when you are uncertain about wind or your kicker's accuracy rating.

Under these rules, failing to land the ball in the landing zone gives the return team a spot far better than a touchback. Touchbacks also come out to a better yard line than they did under the old rules. That makes kick power, kick accuracy, and your read on the returner the real variables. The set supports a field position philosophy: pin the returner inside the landing zone, collapse coverage in lanes, and make the opposing offense start its drive on a long field.
