Breakdown

60 Out is a defensive line stunt call out of the 6-2 Goal Line Defense front, built for short yardage and goal to go run stops rather than pass coverage design. The diagram shows all six down linemen firing hard to their right with angled charge arrows, crossing gaps in a coordinated stunt to overload one side of the line, while the two linebackers hang back near the second level and the three defensive backs stay outside as contain. This is a run stopping front, not a man or zone pass beater, and the primary read progression for the defense is to identify backfield flow and gap displacement first, letting the stunting linemen work their exchange to blow up interior gap runs or fill outside on quick pitches.

Defensive Reads

Read the offensive formation for extra blockers or a fullback, since heavy personnel almost always signals an inside run this front is designed to stop. Watch the guard and tackle first steps post snap, if they immediately pull or combo block toward the stunt direction, your line exchange should still beat them to the gap. This front gets exposed by play action rollouts and quick pitches to the opposite side of the stunt, since your linemen are already committed to one direction. Keep an eye on any user controlled running back who can cut back against the grain, since the stunt creates natural cutback lanes if linebackers do not fill fast enough. If the offense comes out in shotgun or spread personnel near the goal line, expect a pass or RPO look that this stunt heavy front is not built to defend efficiently.

Usage Tips

Call 60 Out on short yardage and goal line situations when you expect a run, especially inside runs and off tackle plays.

Use your pre-snap alignment to bait the offense into an inside run look, then trigger the line stunt to shoot the gap before the offensive line can adjust its combo blocks.

Pair this call with 60 Half Out or 60 Pinch in the same set so opponents cannot key on the same stunt direction every snap, keeping their blocking assignments guessing.

User the linebacker closest to the play side to spy backfield motion and fill downhill immediately if the stunt gets picked up, since the line alone may not fully seal the edge.

Avoid this call on any down where a pass is likely, since the stunt commits your front six to the run and leaves minimal underneath pass rush disguise.
