Cover 1 Games is a man coverage blitz look out of the Dime Single Mug front. The diagram shows a defensive line stunt (games) up front with two rushers looping and crossing to confuse blocking assignments while one edge rusher contains, all backed by single high safety man coverage across the board. This is a defensive play designed to generate pressure with a twist while playing man match underneath, primary read for the defense is to time the stunt to beat the interior offensive line and force a quick throw into tight man coverage.
Pre-snap identify if the offense has a hot route sight adjustment ready for a slot blitz, since Cover 1 Games leaves an underneath void if the stunt does not get home. Watch the offensive line protection slide, if they slide toward the stunt side the twist will get picked up and you need a secondary rush plan. This play is vulnerable to quick game concepts like slants and stick routes that get the ball out before the line stunt develops. It beats offenses that rely on deep drop back concepts and max protect schemes since the twist has time to work and the extra rush defenders in coverage take away scramble drill windows. Key the running back release out of the backfield, since man coverage on backs in the flat is the first leak point if your looping defender gets picked off the stunt.
Disguise the Mug look pre-snap by showing double A gap pressure then dropping one blitzer into a shallow hook to bait the quarterback into an interior throw. Use this on obvious passing downs like 3rd and medium to long when the offense needs time to develop deep routes, since the line stunt is designed to collapse the pocket before those routes materialize. Pair Cover 1 Games with Cover 1 Robber Press in your play-calling sequence so the offense cannot key on the same pre-snap safety rotation. Manually control the looping defensive lineman on the stunt to time your user rush with the snap count and avoid overrunning the quarterback. Mix in Blitz Tex 3 or DB Blitz Tex 3 from the same set to keep the stunt timing and gap exchange unpredictable across series.
