Read the running back's aiming point immediately after the snap, this play wins when defenders diagnose the run gap fast and flow downhill without hesitation. Key the offensive line's initial movement, if you see zone blocking steps flowing laterally, squeeze the cutback lanes with your safeties before the back can break outside. Watch for play-action off this same run look, since Dime 4-1-6 only has one linebacker, a well-timed play-action pass can isolate that lone backer in coverage against a tight end or slot receiver. This package struggles against power and counter runs that pull extra blockers, since Dime personnel lacks the second linebacker to fill an extra gap, so expect offenses to attack with gap schemes if they sense Dime run stop. Post-snap, monitor the slot corners and nickel defenders for their run fits, if they are late reading their keys, offenses running outside zone or stretch plays can bounce it outside for a big gain.
