Cover 2 Invert is a zone coverage shell out of the Base 4-3 in the 46 Normal set that flips the traditional Cover 2 shell by having the corners drive deep down the sideline while the safeties invert to the flats or shallow underneath zones. The two deep outside thirds are covered by corners (blue lines pushing vertical), the safeties (teal) cheat underneath to take away flat and curl areas, and the linebackers (gray and olive) drop into short zones with crossing responsibilities in the middle of the field. This is a zone beater designed to disguise coverage and confuse quarterbacks reading standard Cover 2 shells, with the primary read progression starting at the corner alignment pre snap to identify the invert, then working underneath crossers and flat routes before working back to the deep middle if the disguise holds.

Bracket underneath crossing routes with the inverted safeties since they are already sitting shallow and can jump in-breaking man beaters
Pair this call with Cover 3 Match and Cover 1 Hole in your play-calling sequence so your pre-snap corner and safety alignment looks nearly identical across coverages
Watch for offenses attacking the deep middle seam since the corners are locked into deep thirds and the middle of the field can be vulnerable if linebacker drops are late
