Base Block Right is the standard protection call within the Field Goal Block Right set, designed to give your special teams unit a balanced rush and containment structure when lined up against the opposing field goal or extra point unit. This is not a route concept or run play in the traditional sense: it is a field goal block scheme that sends rushers through gaps on the right side while maintaining edge integrity to prevent a fake. The primary read progression for the user is to identify the most direct rush lane up the middle or off the edge and take manual control of your best penetrator to time the snap and get a hand on the kick.
Watch the long snapper and holder alignment pre-snap for any indication of a fake field goal shift to the right Check the personal protector depth: a protector cheating wide to the right often signals extra protection on that edge, so attack the opposite gap Look for guards or tackles turning their shoulders pre-snap, which can tip a designed rollout fake rather than a real kick attempt Post-snap, key on whether the interior linemen are stepping to seal gaps quickly or staying flat footed, since a slow set up the middle is your best manual rush lane If the offense consistently shows the same protection surface, counter with Load Block Right to stack numbers on their weak side rather than running Base Block Right into a well protected edge
Use Base Block Right as your default call on early field goal attempts before you have scouted the opponent tendencies on fakes or protection shifts
Take manual control of your fastest rusher off the right edge and mash through as the ball is snapped, timing your jump to the snap count rather than guessing
If the opponent has shown a fake field goal look earlier in the game, consider switching to Safe Man Right instead to protect against contain breaks
Once you have identified whether the offense protection is heavier on one side, sequence into Load Block Right on the next attempt to stack extra rush win probability on the weaker side
Save your user rush attempt for kicks inside 40 yards where the lower kick trajectory gives your block attempt a realistic timing window
