RPO Peak Cheat Wrap Go out of Shotgun Split Close Pro is a run pass option built off inside zone action to the backfield, with the offensive line executing a zone wrap scheme up front. Post snap the diagram shows a vertical Go route from the outside receiver stretching the boundary, a wheel or seam read breaking up the middle from the slot, and a shallow drag crossing underneath from the far side receiver while the running back releases into a quick angle route out of the backfield. The read progression starts with the box count and run fit, then works to the shallow drag as the hot route access, before climbing to the seam and finally the Go route as the home run shot against a blown coverage.
Defensive Reads
Read the linebacker depth at the snap, if they crash down hard on the zone action that opens the seam wheel route running underneath vacated zones. Watch for the flat or curl defender jumping the shallow drag route, this is the first sign the offense is working the quick pass side of the RPO. Identify if the defense is playing zone match, since the Go route can get picked off by a deep half safety rotating over the top in two high shells. Man coverage on the slot receiver running the wheel is a mismatch trigger, if a linebacker or nickel corner is matched up there expect the quarterback to climb the progression to that route. Fast flowing linebackers who commit to the run fit without respecting the pass option create a soft spot in the middle of the field for the seam route to exploit after the catch.
Usage Tips
Check the box count pre snap, if the defense is stacked with six or more in the box, pull the ball and work the pass side immediately instead of forcing the run.
Use the shallow drag as your rhythm throw against man coverage since it clears underneath and beats trailing linebackers.
If the safety shows single high pre snap, key the seam wheel route since it attacks the void between the safety and the flat defender.
Pair this call with Inside Zone Split earlier in a series so the defense respects the run action, making the RPO Go and wheel routes hit for bigger chunks later.
Save this play for early down and manageable distance situations where defenses are more likely to sell out on the run fit, giving you the numbers advantage on the perimeter.
