RPO Alert Mtn Bubble is a run pass option built off the Mountain concept, giving the quarterback a pre-snap and post-snap alert to either hand off the run or throw the bubble screen to the slot receiver. The blocking scheme mirrors the base run look so linebackers get the same run fit keys, while the bubble route to the flat serves as the escape valve if defenders crash down. The primary read progression starts with the alert key on the play side linebacker or overhang defender: if he sits in the box or triggers downhill on the run action, the quarterback pulls and fires the bubble, and if he bails or widens out, the quarterback hands the ball off or keeps it on the alert run design.
Check the box count before the snap, six or more defenders in the box with no overhang support on the bubble side means the RPO throw is the easy answer. Identify if the defense is in man coverage by watching for a defender lined up directly over the bubble receiver, since man coverage on that receiver removes the easy screen and favors taking the run. Look for a sim pressure or nano blitz disguise where the linebacker crashes hard immediately, this defeats the alert key and forces a rushed decision, so be ready to get the ball out fast. Post-snap, track any user controlled lurk defender sitting in the shallow flat zone, since a user jumping the bubble route can bait a turnover if the quarterback does not recognize it. Zone shells with a cornerback sinking under the bubble route or a safety rotating down late are the counters that shut this play down, so have a hot route ready to convert the bubble into a different route against those looks.
Use your pre-snap alert button to lock in the run or pass decision manually if you do not trust the auto RPO logic under pressure.
Attack defenses that show heavy box counts or run blitz looks, since the bubble screen punishes linebackers who crash immediately on the snap.
Watch the slot defender depth before the snap, a defender playing off or bailing into a deep zone signals the bubble throw is there for an easy gain.
Pair this play with Mtn PA Cross and Mtn Slot Corner in the same set so the defense has to respect both the quick bubble RPO and the deeper play action shots off similar formation looks.
Best used on early downs or manageable third and short situations where defenses are more likely to sell out against the run.
